121,811. Beaumont, E. G. E. Jan. 2, 1918 Holders.-In a gas reservoir of constant capacity for use on a motor-propelled vehicle, and in which the fuel-gas as it is gradually withdrawn for consumption is replaced by a corresponding volume of exhaust gases from the engine, the difference in the specific gravities of the gaseous charges or a diaphragm is utilized for maintaining their stratification and separation. The reservoir A, Fig. 1, is provided with a gas-supply pipe B and a pipe H connected by a pipe G to the engine exhaust. A non-return valve K, safety-valve L. and a discharge cock M are fitted on the pipe H, and a regulating-valve J on the pipe G. As the gas is withdrawn through the pipes B, D, it is replaced by exhaust gases delivered by the pipes G, H from the engine. Stratification takes place within the reservoir, and the level of the dividing- line between the two gases is indicated by a ballfloat N charged with fuel-gas and carrying a pendent cord or wire T. A seating R surrounds an orifice at the base of the guide P in which the float N works and serves for the discharge of water of condensation and, when the hinged cover S is open, for the release of the exhaust gases during recharging of the reservoir. If the reservoir is constructed of flexible material so as to fold or collapse when the vehicle is in use, the pipe B may be flexibly connected with the reservoir externally and the float &c. situated in a separate chamber. In a modification, Fig. 3, the gases are kept separate by a flexible diaphragm V attached to the reservoir walls at or about their mid-height. The fuel-gas supply pipe B has a mushroom-shaped head U at its upper end, and if one end of a sleeve Z is attached to the neck of the head U, the indicator cord T is connected to the diaphragm V, the float being dispensed with.
