122,228. Barnes, E., and Chase, L. H. Jan. 7, 1918. Sights.-Relates to means for indicating the relative movement of two members, pivoted or otherwise connected together, of the kind wherein the movement of the indicating-device is always in the same direction irrespective of the direction of relative movement, whether approach or recession, of the connected members. The device comprises a frame A and an arm B pivoted thereto. Mounted in the frame A by a pivot E1 and an adjustable screw-and-slot connexion E2 is a link E, to which is pivoted a lever D drawn by a spring K into contact with pins L, L1 carried by the arm B and engaging the lever on opposite edges and on either side of the fulcrum D1. Movement of the lever is communicated to a pointer G, moving over a scale G1, by a pin D2, a slotted link J, and a crank H mounted on the shaft F of the pointer. The distances of the pins L, L' from the fulcrum D1 are such that the same angular displacement of the pointer is produced on the scale for either direction of movement of the arm B. Alternatively, two scales may be provided, one for each direction of movement of the arm B, or the part of the lever against which the pin L1 presses may be camshaped, In the modified construction shown in Fig. 3, the lever D is pivoted on a projection E of the frame, and the part B is connected thereto by slotted links M, M1 engaging pins 0, O1 on the lever, the pins being held at opposite ends of the slots by a spring K. When used as an angle-measuring instrument, sights B1 are provided on the arm B, and a third sight may be mounted on an extension of the frame A. Instead of being pivoted to the frame the arm B may move parallel to itself in guides. Specification 122,209 is referred to.
