Checking shuttles and pickers.-Check straps or martingales of the kind having one end attached to a stationary part of the loom while the other end is adapted to check the shuttle and picker are made of fibrous belting, webbing, &c., and are provided with end pieces of leather, metal, or hide; leather martingales of the kind used on multiple-box looms may be provided with the end pieces. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the end piece comprises a bent piece A of metal, hide, &c., perforated at B, C. A piece D of leather, rubber, or hide is bolted or riveted to the piece A, and is adapted to slide on the picker spindle. The piece D may be gripped between two pieces A. Another form of end which may be used on both ends of the strap, or in conjunction with an end of the kind shown in Fig. 1, comprises a slotted part A, Figs. 3 and 4, secured to one end of the strap L and adjustable along a leather attachment D, which partially encircles the pickerspindle E, the other end of the strap L being adjustably secured to a part A mounted on a stationary part of the loom and adjustably secured by a pin-and-hole arrangement, a strap such as D, a roller with ratchet-and-pawl device, or clamps. The fixed end of the strap may be adjustably secured to a bent plate, Fig. 5, having a slot K for the strap and a hole J for a fixing-bolt.
