Improvements in Children's Toy Books.

Word-building strips and apparatus.-The covers of children's toy-books are provided with grooves or recesses to retain and expose strips or pieces bearing alphabetical characters, figures, &c. which can be manipulated to form different combinations. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the cover may be made from two pieces of material 2, 3, the upper piece having slots 4 along which the pieces 7 can be slid. Connecting-slots 8 allow pieces to be moved from one slot to another, and bypasses 9 permit pieces to be shunted. Pieces 13 of stud-like formation, as shown in Fig. 5, may be employed with a cover consisting of a single sheet of material having slots cut through it. In the modified construction shown in Fig 6, the letters &c. are placed on sliding strips 16 which can be manipulated to expose particular letters behind the apertures 15 and so form words.
