Hulls.-In order to lessen their resistance to propulsion, ships and boats are formed with a channel B in the bottom extending and sloping uniformly from the bow to the stern, or disappearing some distance from the stern, as shown. The sides of the channel are substantially vertical. The channel may be enclosed at the bottom for some, distance from the bow, as shown, but beyond this it is open so as to give full communication with the water.
