125,305. British Northrop Loom Co., (Northrop Loom Co.). Aug. 22, 1918. Shuttles, changing bobbins in, automatically; bobbins, finding and holding detached the free ends of yarn on.-In apparatus for drawing-off and securing the free ends of yarn on weft bobbins preparatory to their transfer into shuttles automatically or by hand, the bobbins 3, Fig. 5, in a hopper 1 are fed singly by an intermittently actuated endless conveyer band 11 past a gate 5, which is opened at intervals against spring action by a tripping-device to let a bobbin fall on to a roller 22. Reverse movement of the band 11 cooperates with a roller 15 slidable vertically in slots 16 to adjust deranged bobbins in the hopper. The butt of the bobbin on the roller 2 is received in a guide 24 and its tip between side guides so that the bobbin is free to rotate when the roller 22 is revolved by a gear wheel 23 thereon and internal teeth on part of a gear wheel 78, which is rotated by power under control of a hand-operated clutch, and is provided with a trip pin and cam for operating various parts of the apparatus. When the bobbin is rotated, the end winding thereon is engaged in a slot or one of a number of slots 43, Fig. 8, in a finger 29, which is pivoted to a slide 39 mounted on a carriage 32 and projected at the proper time against the action of a spring 41 by a trip arm 44 to let the finger fall on to the bobbin. The slotted edge of the finger 29 may be straight, as shown, or curved to fit the bobbin, and as the bobbin is rotated by friction it is free to stop when the end winding is engaged. The arm 44 is then withdrawn and the spring 41 retracts the slide 39 to raise the finger into a slot in an extension 35 of the carriage, a knife cooperating with the finger to cut the yarn extending to the butt. The carriage is moved along rods 34, 66 by the engagement therewith of a projection on an endless chain, so that the end of yarn clamped by the finger in the slotted extension 35 is drawn out axially of the bobbin. The carriage is locked at the end of its outward movement by a spring catch 65, Fig. 6, on the rod 66, and the yarn 27 is engaged by the hooked end 67 of an arm adjustably secured to a shaft 68, which is rotated by chain-gearing 69, 70, 71 from a driven shaft 72, so that the hooked arm is rotated to wind the yarn around a holder 49 on the frame of the apparatus or on a bobbin magazine of weft-replenishing mechanism. The clamped end of the yarn is released by movement of the plunger 39 by a gravity-retracted trip-arm 75 acted upon intermittently by a projection 76 on the shaft 72. At this time, the roller 22 is withdrawn by backward movement of a pivoted frame 18, and the bobbin is allowed to drop into a compartment of a weft-replenishing magazine. The rod 66 is then rocked to release the catch 65, and the carriage 32 is drawn back to its initial position by a cord and weight. Specification 120,313 is referred to.
