Checking shuttles and pickers.-Two arms a, b, Fig. 1, are coupled by a rod c and are pivoted on spindles i secured to brackets d, e on the exterior of the shuttle box, leather straps g, g1 formed into loops surrounding the picker spindle f on each side of the picker h being secured to the ends of the arms to act as checkstraps. The brackets have stops d1, e1 to limit the movements of the arms, which are so arranged that when one is vertical the other is inclined. Normally the drag on the straps g, g1 produces sufficient friction to check the shuttle and pickers, but an adjustable frictional resistance to the movement of one or both arms may be effected by pressing a washer j, Fig. 2, against a faced abutment b1 on the arm by a spring k surrounding the spindle i and adjusted by a nut l. Alternatively, a blade spring may be fastened to the inner face of the arm to bear against the opposing surface of the bracket; or a looped strap may be provided with a hole at each end to engage the picker spindle on each side of one or both straps g, g1.
