Pivoted-blade type.-The redundant tabs of division cards for a card index are removed by a cutting- apparatus comprising a guide-member adapted to receive the tab not required to be severed and two shearing-knives simultaneously operable to remove the remaining tabs. The card is so placed on a bed-plate 1 that the required tab projects within a guide-member 3 and the remaining tabs are severed by knives 13, 14 carried by pivoted arms 8, 9 linked together as at 10 and operated by a handle 11, the depression of which is controlled by the engagement of the link 10 with a stop 12. The knives 13, 14 may shear with the edge of the base-plate or with a knife fixed thereto. Tongues 16, 17 on the pivoted knives and springs bearing on these knivse serve to ensure shearing contact with the fixed blade. The guide-member 3 and knives 13, 14 may be removed and changed, and the knife carrying levers 8, 9 may be adjustable to adapt the apparatus for cutting tabs of different widths. The bedplate 1 may consist of a wood table on a metal base.
