Anchoring and securing apparatus.-In order to prevent overturning and slipping of capstan or anchor carriages when in use in rope-traction ploughing or cultivating, the wheels on the side nearest the cultivated land are replaced by a sled rigidly connected to the carriage by a projecting frame or the like and adapted to bear horizontally and vertically against the ground and to travel in a prepared furrow, or to cut its own way through the ground. Fig. 1 shows the sled E connected to the carriage A by a frame D and travelling in a prepared furrow. It consists of a long piece of angle-iron arranged as shown. When it is arranged to cut its own path, the vertical part projects downwards into the ground and the horizontal part rests on the surface. The length is such that steering-mechanism may be dispensed with, and stability is ensured in carriages having, normally, two wheels only.
