Projectiles. - Relates to practice bullets adapted to produce a flash on impact with a kinematograph target. and consists in making the bullet so that it only leaves on the target a deposit of approximately the same light colour as that of the target, whereby the target is not sullied. As shown in Fig. 1, the flash composition b is located in a hole in the nose of the bullet a; preferably a space c is left at the back of the composition. A suitable composition leaving a white deposit contains 8À25 parts of barium nitrate, 0À25 fine coal, and 5 parts of aluminium. Compositions containing magnesium and barium chlorate may also be used, and the flash may be slowed by the addition of substances such as zinc oxide, Venetian red, brown umber, powdered quartz, kieselguhr. asbestos, sand, pumice-stone, and glass.
