Plane-trigonometry calculators.-Consists of an apparatus for determining the limiting angle of approach of a submarine vessel attacking other vessels with torpedoes. The apparatus comprises (1) a plate 1, Fig. 1, graduated along its base 4 for speed or run of attacked vessel or convoy of vessels, and also provided with a protractor scale 5, (2) a radial arm 2 graduated for range of visibility of attacked vessel to attacking-vessel, and (3) a pair of scales 6, 7 pivoted to each other, the former for run or speed of attacking-vessel and the latter for torpedo range. In addition, there may be provided (1) a transparent plate 8, Fig. 2, graduated horizontally for run or speed of attacked vessel and vertically for run or speed of attacking-vessel, (2) a protractor 9, Fig. 1, with concentric ares the radii of which represent distances traversed by attacking-vessel in definite intervals of time, and (3) a pair of dividers. The limiting angle is read off the protractor 5 after the other scales have been set. The apparatus can also be used for determining other quantities.
