Devuleanizing a n d utilizing waste rubber.- In apparatus for making annular rubber articles, such as solid rubber tyres and washers, by subjecting granular or powdered waste vulcanized rubber in an annular mould, provided with inner and outer heating jackets, to axial pressure and to heat, the waste rubber 24, Fig. 1, is compressed between the plunger 16 and annulus 21 of a press 18, and the temperatures of the jacket 13, 14 are independently regulated from a maximum temperature produced by the circulation of high tem. perature steam to a minimum temperature produced by the circulation of cold water. The article may be similarly secured to a metal base either subsequently or, as shown in Fig. 5, simultaneously. The waste rubber may be fed in to the mould in successive stages, the rubber of ono stage being compressed before the next is fed in.
