摘要
141,861. Laverack, M. M., (Representative of Laverack, E. C.). March 11, 1919. Drying furnaces and kilns.-Apparatus for drying excreta, mucilaginous, and other solid matters comprises a brickwork casing a, Figs. 1, 2, and 3, containing one or more transverse furnaces i, two parallel flues m, n, the upper flue m being in direct communication with the furnaces i, and endless chains carrying scrapers 1 which move the material over the top plates m2, n1, of the flues to a transverse recess 45 in the bottom of the casing, whence it is discharged by a screw conveyer 46, a disintegrator 13 being fitted in the feed-hopper 43. The gases &c. from the furnaces pass by the flue m to vertical side flues q, r which are in communication at the top and bottom by horizontal flues s, t and u, v, respectively. The flue n extends from the flues q, r to a transverse flue w leading to a chimney. The endless chains which carry the bars z to which the scrapers 1 are secured, pass over polygonal pulleys 6, 7, and are provided with runners or bowls 4 which run between projections x3 on the upper horizontal portion x of the Z-shaped supporting plates x, x1 of the plates m2, n1. The pulley 7 is driven by worm gearing 33, 34 from a shaft 31 driven by bevel gearing 29, 30 from the driving-shaft 27. The disentegrated material falls on to the top m2 of the flue m, and is moved along the tops of the flues m, n by the scrapers 1, and an inclined plate 44 may direct the material from the end of the flue m on to the lower flue n. The steam &c. rising from the material is drawn through the space 48 between the flues m, n into the furnaces i. Openings d fitted with doors e are provided at one or both ends of the casing a the top of which is closed by metal plates g. Apertures closed by suitable doors are provided in the side walls of the casing to supply air to the furnaces.
