Improvements in connection with the driving wheels and gearing of beet-harvesters and other agricultural machines

Crops, root, digging-machines for.-Each of the broad driving-wheels of beet-harvesting and other heavy agricultural machines is replaced by two or more narrower wheels, all the wheels being connected to one another and to the driving motor in such a way that the wheels at one side of a machine can rotate independently of those at the other side and the wheels on the same side either can rotate independently of one another or can be disconnected from one another while the machine is turned. Fig. 2 shows a machine frame mounted on steering-wheels 2 and one two pairs of driving-wheels 3, 4 arranged to pass centrally between the rows of beet. The four wheels 3, 4 are mounted on a common shaft 9 and are driven from short shafts 8 by spur gearing 6, 7. The shafts 8 are driven by differential and chain gearing 10, 11, 12, 13 from a counter-shaft 14 which is driven from the motor shaft 20 by differential and chain gearing 15, 16, 17, 18. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the outer wheels 3 are driven from the inner wheels 4 by spring-controlled clutches 23 which may be moved out of action when the machine is to be turned.
