Discharging by means external to breech mechanism.-Relates to means situated at a distant transmitting-station for obtaining the advance in ignition of gyroscopically-controlled electric firing-gear to suit the firing delay which occurs when the ship rolls. According to the invention, the sighting-telescope B2, stabilized on a trainable support A by a gyroscope B, carries on an arm B1 a mark b5 and a contact b6. Further, a mark e1 and a contact c1, preferably carried by movable sectors E, C, are connected through gearing to a lever D for setting the mark e1 to the maximum outward swing of the mark b5. When this has been done, the lever D is secured and the contact c1 is then correctly set relatively to the contact b6 to give the desired advance ignition. The contacts b6, c1 are included in a firing-circuit passing through a coil g1 on the gun breech and controlled by a switch F. The elevation for range is set up at the transmitting-station on a drum h3 and communicated to dials H' at the gun or to the gun itself. A tell-tale indicator J1 shows at the transmitting station when the gun has been properly elevated to accord with the setting on the drum h3.
