Accumulators.-Relates to quick-acting reversing trip gear operated by a reciprocating body at the ends of its stroke stated to be applicable generally and described in connection with hydraulic accumulators. The pump suction valve is operated by a counterweight 19 connected to lever 10 having a rod 13 passing freely through a hole in a lug 14 formed in a weight 8 heavier than the counterweight 19 and terminating in a head 15. A headed rod 6 mounted in the weight 8 is connected by a cord to a weight 1 which moves in unison with the moving part of the accumulator. As the weight 1 descends from the position shown in Fig 1, the rod 6 is raised. Before its head 7 contacts with and raises the weight 8, a pawl 21 is moved by a cam-surface on the weight 1, so that its end 23 engages the upper surface of a projection 24 on the lever 10. The weight 8, while being raised, slides on the rod 13. When the accumulator ram reaches its extreme position, the cam-surface on the weight 1 moves the pawl 21 out of engagement with the lever 10, and the counterweight 19 raises the lever to its upper position as shown in Fig. 3. During the return, the weight 8 is lowered, the pawl 21 being caused to lock the lever 10 in its upper position before the weight has come into contact with the head 15 of the rod 13. At the end of the motion the pawl is disengaged, and the heavier weight 8 returns the lever 10 and counterweight 19 to the position shown in Fig. 1. The projections 23 and 24 may be stepped.
