Crude tin is granulated or divided and introduced together with chlorine, and water into a vessel containing stannous or stannic chloride, the tin being maintained in excess so that stannous chloride is formed. Pure tin may be obtained from the stannous chloride by known methods, so that the process may be used for refining tin.
