Cultivators; ploughs.-In a cultivator or plough in which the main wheels a are carried on a cranked axle f and the tools c are lifted from the ground by rocking this axle, using power obtained from a toothed wheel on one of the main wheels, means are provided to permit the tools to rise without affecting the main wheels when an obstruction is encountered. A cranked frame g is mounted on the stub axles at the ends of the crank-shaft f and extends upwards in a plane inclined to that in which the cranked axle f lies, the axle f and the frame g being connected by stays h. A crank-shaft i is mounted in the upper part of the triangular frame thus formed, and is connected by an adjustable link through a slot-and-pin connection m2 with a height-adjusting hand-lever m. A sprocket-wheel driven through a chain from a sprocket-wheel on one of the main wheels a is loosely mounted on the shaft i, but is adapted to be clutched to it by freeing a roller from a clutch member e. On operation of this clutch member, the shaft i rotates through half a revolution rocking the triangular frame f, g, h about the axle f through its pull on the link to the height-adjusting lever. A second operation of the clutch member retrieves the shaft i to its original position with the tools in operative position. Should the tools strike an obstacle, the frame lifts, the slot connection to the lever m permitting this movement without the wheels a being affected.
