172,205. Schantz, K.. Nov. 5, 1920. Mercuric chloride is produced by dropping mercury through an atmosphere of chlorine into a liquid which does not absorb chlorine. The liquid may be hot water or mercuric chloride solution. and the temperature may be kept down to about boiling- point by adding fresh cold liquid. The apparatus described consists of a rotary drum F having blades M which lift the mercury and drop it into the liquid F1. The chlorine may be introduced under moderate pressure.
