Cigarette-making machines.- Relates to the separation of broken or defective cigarettes from perfect cigarettes and consists in passing the cigarettes along tracks or supports with converging or narrow parts so that broken cigarettes drop between the supports and defective cigarettes overbalance at one side. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the cigarettes 2 are carried between guide-threads 11, 11' on converging travelling threads 8, 8', and the perfect cigarettes pass on to the parallel threads 13, In modifications, series of parallel threads at different distances apart are used. In a modification, Fig. 5, the cigarettes are moved forward step by step along a rotated stationary frame 20, with narrow interrupted parts 21, 22, by a similar frame 30, which is moved upward, forward, downward and backward by suitable mechanism. In another modification, the cigarettes are carried by a grooved drum down a curved open frame with converging sides, and the perfect cigarettes are carried off on diverging threads.
