Testing physiological functions and mental aptitude.-Relates to apparatus for testing a person's speed of reaction to unexpected impressions whilst his attention is otherwise constantly engaged, particularly for testing vehicle drivers. The apparatus comprises a series of lamps a operated at irregular intervals by means of a motor and constantly engaging the attention, and a series of lamps b of different colour or type irregularly operated by a switch g, which also controls a time-recorder d measuring to a thousandth part of a second. A steering and brake device c similar to those used on vehicles is operated by the person under test immediately thelamps b are operated, and serves to switch off the lamps b and stop the time recorder so that the period of reaction may be determined. Additional lamps e of still other colours are irregularly switched on, but are intended to be ignored by the person under test.
