Materials and compositions for making gas, coke, and other products consist of carbonaceous solids such as coals, shales, peat, wood &c. and sewage, trade waste sludge or humus from bacterial filters, which has been activated. For the manufacture of coke, a small proportion of activated sludge is employed and the mixture dried with or without previous compression. For the production of ammonia compounds the proportion of sludge to carbonaceous solid is greatly increased and may be as much as five to one.
