Stencils.-In stencil plates of the kind provided with apertures forming parts of each character, so that each character can be formed in two or more operations by successive registration of the apertures, the latter are so arranged that the complete formation of each character can be effected by moving the stencil plate horizontally along a straight edge or guide. In the example shown, the characters are in two rows, each character being made up by superposing adjacent apertures. The characters in the two rows are in inverted relation so that either row can be used by turning over the stencil plate, leaving the straight-edge or guide in position until the line of impression is completed.
