Lace.-One or more weft threads d are laid within a shed formed from the warp threads b ... b111, c ... c111 and bobbin threads a of a twist lace machine in such a manner that at the places where the wefts are locked in, the warps exert equal and opposite forces on the bobbin threads, thereby preventing distortion of the latter and reducing the tendencv of the fabric to unrove. The warps b ... b111 are carried by one fully threaded bar or the equivalent number of partially-threaded bars and the warps c ... c111 are carried by a similar bar or equivalent. The two bars are shogged simultaneously in opposite directions when the carriages are in the back combs. The weft d is laid in when the carriages are at the front, and a second weft e may be laid in when the carriages are at the back but is not locked in as is the weft d. In a modified method of working two pairs of warp bars or their equivalent are used one pair to lock in a front weft when the carriages are at the front and the other pair to look in a back weft when the carriages are at the back. Additional patterning or like threads may be inserted.
