Improvements in the screw tipping gear of side and end tipping waggons

Tip-wagons. - The, screw tipping gear of wagons, more particularly those in which the tipping is effected mechanically, have the sections of the telescopic screw provided with spring-controlled couplings. The inner screw 8 is driven from the engine through bevel gearing 5, 6 and carries an outer screwed section 9 connected thereto by a threaded collar 10. The screw 8 has at its upper end a sliding cone controlled by a spring 12, which when the first section is extended, engages with a conical face 10a of the collar 10, thus acting as a friction clutch. Subsequently the screws 8, 9 rotate together causing a trunnion nut 14 to travel up the screw 9 until a conical-faced projection 14a thereon contacts with the internal conical face of a member 15 abutting against the flange of a cap 18, the complete tipping being effected when the spring 16 is fully compressed.
