Untwisting ropes.-A rope 14 to be untwisted is drawn from a drum 13 having a drag-rope 18, the core passing through a hollow driving-shaft 8 of a revolvable structure to a winding-drum 69, and the strands passing to two sets of bobbins 24, 33 carried in flyers 27, 36, which are journaled in plates 1, 2, 3 of the structure. The plates are secured to the shaft 8 and driven by a pullev 9 thereon, and are supported on rollers 4, 6. The trunnions of the flyers 36 extend forward to form hollow stays 21, through which the strands to the rear set of bobbins 33 pass, and the trunnions of the flyers 27 extend backward to form stays 43. The flyers are maintained horizontal by cranks 47, on the trunnions of the flyers 36 and on the stays 43, engaging holes in a heavy ring 46 supported eccentrically to the shaft 8 on rollers 48 Each set of bobbins is driven by a rope 58 passing over, or given one complete turn around, pulleys 55, 57 mounted on the flyer trunnions and the stays respectively, the rope passing between guide-pulleys 59, 60 to a tensioning pulley 61 provided with a drag-device 62. Pulleys or sprockets 54 secured to the pulleys 55 communicate motion through belts or chains to shafts 52 journaled in the flyers and thence to bevel-wheels 50 each forming one flange of the bobbins. The speed of rotation of each set of bobbins can thereby be varied independently of the speed of rotation of the structure. The bobbins are detachably mounted in their flyers and each is formed with a tapered barrel 74 and a detachable flange 75.
