197,975. Plantation Rubber Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Dessau, M. M. Nov. 22, 1921. Washing-boards. - A thin flexible sheet of rough-surfaced rubber such as crepe or smoked sheet rubber, is used as a surface for washing boards and is secured at the edges and elsewhere if necessary but not uniformly all over. The rubber may be cold vulcanized. In Fig. 1 a sheet a of such rubber is stretched over a rubbing board e by securing its ends to the opposite edges of one end b of the board, the bight so formed at the other end of the board passing over a roller d; the rubber being kept taut by means of bolts h and thumb nuts i. In a modification the rubber may be first cured and then fixed to a board e, Fig. 4, by skips j along the edges of the rubber sheet; these strips may be rubber covered. Alternatively, Fig. 5, holes k in the edges of the board are filled with rubber plugs, which may project slightly above the board at each end and to which the rubber sheet is attached. The rubber sheet may be rolled into cord form and may be used to lace the covering sheet to the board as shown in Fig. 7.
