199,178. Bamford, D., and Henshall, A. April 4, 1922. Singeing. - In cloth-singeing machines the copper singeing-plates 1, 2 are rocked backwards and forwards. The plates are heated by gas, oil, or coal. When oil burners are employed, they are rocked so that the flame sweeps over the entire inner surface of the plates. In the case of gas burners, they are traversed axially along the plates to prevent uneven heating. The fabric may be singed on one or both sides by passing it along the lines 18, 18a respectively. The cloth is fed between guide-rollers which can be raised or lowered with respect to the plates. The supports 3, 4 for the plates may be lined with fire tiles or they may be made hollow for the circulation of water, the heated water being used in the dye house or for boiler feed. The supports for the plates may be mounted on antifriction rollers and be rocked by the mechanism shown, or otherwise. Any number of singeing-plates may be employed.
