Renewable wearing-parts for crossings.-A railway crossing has at the point of intersection a cavity 8 providing bottom support 9 for a renewable insert 10. Thin steel plates 9a form a resilient support for the insert and provide meansfor adjusting the insert to compensate for wear. The insert has a central foot 19. radiating walls 19a and a perimeter wall 10b, all of which rest on the plates 9a. The insert is secured by wedge-bolts 15 inserted from the exterior and retained by filling-pieces 17. When the tread surfaces 20 are worn, the insert may be turned to present the surfaces 21. The insert is adapted for manganese-steel crossings, the cavities facilitating the subsequent heat treatment.
