Four-stroke-cycle engines.-Three cylinders are arranged in line, the middle cylinder 1 having a cross-sectional area twice that of either of the outer cylinders 2. The combustion chambers of the outer cylinders are connected. All three pistons work on one crank through the cross-shaped connecting-rod 7. The middle and two outer cylinders fire alternately. Groups of such cylinders may be arranged radially.
