Magnesium and like powder lamps. - A flash-powder lamp for photographic purposes comprises a sheet metal trough A and an igniting means consisting of a grooved or milled wheel K which is carried by a spindle I arranged in a tube B attached to the trough floor and engages two screw-adjusted spring- pressed flints M1 carried by tubes M also attached to the trough floor. A spring-pressed ratchet E mounted in a holder C on the tube B engages a ratchet-wheel H on the bottom of the spindle I. When the ratchet-wheel H is released by pressure on the ratchet E the spindle I is rotated by a coiled spring G and the sparks caused by the contact of the wheel K with the flints M1 ignite the flash powder in the trough A. A removable metal cover L formed with spark apertures 0 prevents contact of the powder with the wheel K. On the spindle I being rotated to put the spring G in tension the grooves of the wheel K are cleaned by contact with the flints M'.
