Fluid-actuated gears. -In a hand-supported percussive tool for riveting, chipping, &c., the power fluid is distributed by a sleeve valve arranged between the piston and the cylinder, which valve is provided with a single circumferential projection to control the forward supply. Fluid entering the supply duct hand ports m fills the cylinder, and passing up port l throws the valve f upward, the upper annular valve surface being open to exhaust through ports k1. The cylinder then exhausts through ports j, and compressed-air passes to the forward end of the cylinder to raise the hammer c through passages h, p, n, k. When the ports j are closed by the piston, the compression throws the valve downward, closing ports and putting the upper end of the cylinder to supply to drive the piston down, and the lower end of the cylinder to exhaust through passages k, k'.
