An improved method for decorating velvet and the like by flattening out the hair or nap thereof

Designs, producing.-Designs are produced on velvet &c. by flattening out the hair or nap by means of a hot iron 5 which is heated to a temperature at which it would burn the velvet and is applied thereto with the interposition of a sheet of oiled paper 9 or the like. The paper 8 on which the design is drawn is placed over the piece 9 of oiled paper on the velvet 7. The papers are preferably used only for tracing the outlines of the design, the papers being removed and the tool heated to a lower temperature for the remaining parts of the design. The tool may be heated by petrol vapour &c. produced in a vessel 3, air being supplied by a bell 1 dipping into a vessel 2 containing water. The pressure may be adjusted by a weight 10 as shown.
