Jacquards.-In jacquards for use in lace curtain and like machines the pivoted arm or clawker 9, Fig. 4, for controlling the rotation of the cylinder 2 as this reciprocates by acting on bolts 7 thereon, is held out of action at times, so that the rotation of the cylinder is stopped to enable particular cards 1 to be repeated, by means of a cam 18 acting on a truck 19 on the arm &c. 9. The cam is bolted to a ratchet-wheel 14 on an axle, which may be internally threaded to screw on to a bolt extending from the jacquard standard. The ratchet wheel is rotated by a spring-controlled pawl 13 on an arm 11 connected by an adjustable link 10 to the cylinder frame 6, which is reciprocated by a bell crank and may be furnished with runners engaging a platform. A spring 15 attached to the arm 11 and to a fixed member prevents play in the arm 11 and link 10. An adjustable pawl 21 prevents back movement of the ratchet wheel and a nut engaging a spring washer &c. acting on the ratchet wheel prevents free movement thereof. When two clawkers 30, 31, Figs. 10 and 11 are used, so that the cylinder 2 may be rotated in either direction, the cards being provided with plate elements 35 to act on one or the other of two pins 33 on a pivoted member 32, so that this member holds one or the other of the clawkers in inoperative position, the cam 18 is used to move when required the operative clawker into inoperative position so that both clawkers are then inoperative. If the lower clawker, for example, is in operative position, and the upper clawker inoperative, a rise on the cam 18 acts on a roller or truck 44 on a lever 43a, 43b, which then acts on a bolt 41a and draws up a rod 40 connected to a weighted or spring controlled arm 38 on the clawker 31, thus moving this clawker 31 into inoperative position. If the clawker 30 is operative, it is moved into inoperative position by the truck &c. 44 acting on a bolt 37. A series of ratchet wheels may be used.
