232,458. Brightside Foundry & Engineering Co., Ltd., and Hewitt, B. W. July 15, 1924. Vehicles, marshalling and handling.-In means for feeding tubs into pit cages or other predetermined positions, of the type in which the tub is pushed by vehicle-engaging members reciprocated by a hydraulic ram located between the track rails, the vehicle-engaging member is pivoted to the ram and mounted on wheels or rollers to ride up an inclined track into a vehicle-engaging position during its forward movement so that a vehicle can pass freely over the mechanism when being run into the zone of its operation, means also being provided for automatically reversing the mechanism when the impelled tub has reached the cage. The ram c working in the cylinder a carries a shaft j at its forward end on which the vehicle-engaging members k are pivoted. The members k are supported on four rollers, two comparatively wide rollers on the ends of the shaft j and two narrower forward rollers n. These rollers run on a supplementary channeliron track with an inclined partially-interrupted portion r down which only the forward rollers n can pass. In the normal inoperative position shown in full lines, trucks can be run in from the left-hand side of the Figure and pass freely over the apparatus. On manipulating the hand.lever h to regulate the valve mechanism f, the piston is advanced and the rollers n ride up on to the main run of the supplementary track, thus elevating the members k into the truck-engaging position shown in dotted lines. A stop t prevents the members from rising too far. At the end of the forward stroke the ram trips the lever i and reverses the valve mechanism to restore the apparatus to its inoperative position.
