Vertically driven rock-breakers.-Apparatus for attaching a steel wedge or other tool to a piledriving hammer for breaking up road or other foundations, excavating rock and similar purposes comprises supports D secured to the steam, pneumatic or other hammer A. Secured to the supports D are transverse plates E which serve to guide the hammer on the guides C. A U- shaped plate F attached to the plates E supports a block H. having a bushed vertical hole to guide and support the wedge or tool G. A pin L passes through the tool and through slots in the plates E and F above the block H. Plates M, of inverted T-shape, detachably secured to the plate F and covering the slots therein, prevent the pin from falling out. In use. the hammer is lowered till the point of the tool G rests on the object to be, broken up and its upper end is pressed against the anvil block B of the hammer. The lowering rope N is then released and the hammer started, driving the tool into the object.
