Improvements relating to the automatic regulation of the combustion of gaseous fuel in bunsen burners

Air supply, regulating; air supply for combustion; gas pipes.-The combus. tion of gas in Bunsen burners is automatically regulated by preheating, by means of the combustion products, the gas and the primary air, such regulation depending on the fact that the calorific value of the mixture varies directly with its density and therefore inversely with its temperature. Fig. 2 shows the application to a kitchen-range &c. A chamber 1, heated by the combustion products, is divided, by a partition 2, into two compartments. Air supplied by open pipes is heated in one and gas from a pipe 6 in the other mixture being effected at 8, 10. A wall of fire-brick &c. which may serve as backing for radiants 12 protects the chamber 1 from excessive heat. In a modification, Fig. 4, of less depth and suitable for a closed stove or for an open fire, the gas is heated by giving the gas pipe 6 a circuitous course through the air chamber.
