Fats and fatty oils, extracting.- In the extraction of oil and gelatinous matter, the whale blubber or flesh or similar raw materials are first ground by a revolving grinding disc, preferably in presence of steam or hot water. Using the apparatus shown, herrings or other fish 2 are pressed down one or more shafts 3 on to a grindstone 1. Steam may be passed through a tube 6, steam or hot water through a tube 5. The ground material is taken up by a conveyer 7 and compressed in a cylindrical screen 8 tapered at the end 11. The oil and gelatigenous water escape to a jacket 9 and outlet 10; the residue passes through an outlet 12. The shaft 13 may be hollow and perforated and used for the admission of steam to the chamber 4 and the press 8. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the disintegration by grinding of animal or vegetable raw materials generally. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
