Squirting a tube, rod, band, or wire from a heated block of copper, zinc, aluminium, brass, iron, or like metal is carried out by means of ordinary tools in a mechanically driven press. In making a tube the block h may have a preformed hole ! l extending partly or completely through it, and the plunger has a shoulder b and piercer c. Working at specified temperatures.-The tools are heated and lubricated with oil and graphite before use, and the following temperatures are found to be suitable for the block, viz. 350‹-150‹ C. for aluminium, 650‹- 800‹ for brass, and 800‹-900‹ for copper.
