Cylinder machines; feeding; moulds.-In machines for moulding and marking cakes of soap &c. of the type involving a rotary wheel carrying radial moulds fitted with cam operated plungers and lids, the sides, top and bottom of each mould are independently movable by cam action. As shown, a rotating annulus B is furnished with bosses I111 housing the pistons l1 of bottom plungers H. Sides 11, 12 are hinged at 11b, 12b to each boss which is also furnished with lugs carrying hinged arms 13, 14, Fig. 3, carrying the mould ends 13a, 13b. Each mould lid G is carried upon sleeves 19 telescopically engaging rods 20 extending from brackets 20a carried by a shaft 22 passing through the boss I111. A cranked portion 17 of one bracket carries a roller 16a engaging a stationary cam groove to turn aside the lid G during feeding and delivery. Cam grooves 26a on the brackets engage toes on the arms 13, 14 to operate the ends 13a, 13b which are closed against the lid by arms 31 thereon engaging projections 30. A notched member 23 on one bracket rocks the side 11 into and out of the closed mould position. The side 12 is opened by a projection 25, Fig. 1, engaged by one of the sleeves 19, and is locked, in the closed position, by a projection 29 on the lid G. Pressure is applied to the lids by a curved cam J pivoted at J1 and influenced by a weight 32 acting through levers 33, K1. The soap &c. blanks are fed into the mould from a hopper A by a feeder 9 reciprocated by a lever 7 which is moved in one direction by a rod 8 and in the other by a spring 7a. The rod 8, which is adjustably connected at 7b to the lever 7, is adapted to be depressed by rollers 10, against the action of a spring 7c to bring a notch on the end of the rod into the path of a pin 6a on a lever 4 which is rocked by a cam 1 and spring 5.
