Moving - chamber apparatus. - A dipping and tipping cup, adapted for withdrawing a measured quantity of re-agent solution in a water softening, hardening, or purifying apparatus, and for deliverying it to water discharged from a tipper, consists of a vessel a with a lid b to prevent the contents from being spilled. The tipper, in the usual construction, receives a charge of water, and falls over when full; by means of suitable connections, the tipper lowers the cup into the solution, and lifts it to a point at which the cup is tipped on its trunnions j1 so as to discharge the solution. The cup a is of elongated form, and the cover b, secured by countersunk screws c, leaves the spout open to allow the solution to enter and leave. To facilitate this, holes or slots are made in the cover. In a modification, the lid, which is imperforate, is hinged at one side or the rear, and is lifted by the impact of liquid as it descends. The lift is controlled by a stop near the hinge. Washers m may be strung on a rod k to enable the capacity of the cup to be varied.
