248,748. Brunner, R. March 2, 1926. Optical - projection apparatus; kaleidoscopic apparatus. - Designs &c. on opaque or other bases are projected on to a translucent surface from which they are again projected by a kaleidoscopic mirror system and a suitable lens system; the translucent surface may itself bear colours or designs and be associated with transparent material carrying a design &c. As shown in Fig. 7. a design on an opaque base a is illuminated by lamps l, and is projected by lens elements m and a mirror o3 on to a translucent surface g. A roll film f bearing designs is movable over the surface g, and is carried in a casing h rotatable on the tube e. A transparent object box containing solid or liquid substances may also be provided, and the whole design is projected by kaleidoscopic mirrors q, an objective n and a mirror o on to a horizontal surface. Another design on a transparent base may also be projected on to the surface g by a second lamp and optical system, and a modification is described in which two designs on transparent bases are projected by one light source and condenser and two objectives. Various systems of mirrors q are described in the Specification. and the mirrors may be plane or corrugated. Figs. 1 and 2 show sectional elevations of an apparatus for projecting vertically from a drawing &c. carried between a plate 64 and a glass sheet 65, and for projecting horizontally from designs on transparent films. The vertical projection system comprises an objective 45, several exchangeable mirror systems in a slidable holder 39, an objective 42, and adjustable mirrors 53, 54. Means are provided for rotating the mirror systems and an object holder 14. The horizontal projection system comprises a condenser 7, two movable and rotatable films 13, 24, exchangeable rotatable mirror systems 27 in a horizontally slidable holder, and an objective 42. A further modification is described in which projection may be effected alternatively from designs on opaque bases or on transparent bases.
