Bearings, determining; light radiations and ultra-violet and infra-red rays, control of signalling and other apparatus by. - In a system of indicating navigable channels by the transmission of beams of luminous ultra-violet, infra-red, or wireless waves as described in the parent Specification the beam instead of intersecting on the course cut the course at different points which move along so that one point is always later than the other by a constant time interval. The signalling stations are preferably arranged so that the routes traced are geometrical paths. Fig. 13 shows a cylinder 30 internally silvered and so arranged that it reflects the rotating beams from stations A, A' and by adjustment along Z, Z of the observing point the displacement of the beams in time can be determined. Fig. 11 shows a system employing a number of fixed beams from stations A, A' which intersect at points r1 - - r5 equally spaced on the course. In addition a system of buoys 31, 32, or the like can be employed as shown in Fig. 14 co-operating either with the shore station beams or with beams from a projection on the ship. The construction of the buoy is shown in Fig. 15 and the reflecting system may be rotatable under the control of a magnetic needle so as to give a constant direction. The buoys may be arranged to reflect with beams from one direction only or from any direction and in the case of aircraft routes a reflection upwards may be provided.
