Winding or reeling machines; stop - motions. - For convenience in inspecting yarns, especially artificial silk, in order to remove imperfect yarns as regards structure and colour, the yarns are wound in skeins in 8-form in a single layer as shown in Fig. 1, on two parallel rods 7, 71, Fig. 5, by means of a guiding rod 6 mounted on a cross stay 19 sliding on two rods 20, 201 which are reciprocated and rocked by a crank 14 connected to the rods 20, 201 by a rod 15 sliding in a pivoted guide 16 mounted on a small column 17. The yarns are fed from a spool 35 over pulleys 38, 39 each mounted on elastic rods to compensate for variation in the winding speed. The part 19 is connected by cords 21 passing over pullays 22, 221 to the part 16, so that the longer axis of the skein produced is twice the throw of the crank 14. The rods 7 are mounted on a carriage 24 provided underneath with a half nut engaging a screw 27 which is rotated by a pawl engaging a toothed wheel 34 and operated by an eccentric 33 on the main shaft. The drive of the machine is from a pulley 31 freely mounted on a shaft 32 and having a pin 47 engaging a spring 46 splined on the shaft. When the yarn breaks, an elastic lever 51 springs upwards and a lever 52 is caused to engage a lever 53 which pushes down a catch 50 and releases an arm 49 pivoted at 44. An extension 43 of the arm 49 operates a sliding sleeve 45 normally urged by a spring towards a fixed plate 42 and one or other of the stops 48 thereon engaging a spring 46' carried by the sleeve 45 brings the machine to rest. The rods 20, 201 may be dispensed with and the part 19 secured to the rod 15, when the longer axis of the skein will be equal to the throw of the crank 14.
