Discharging.-Apparatus for receiving coke discharged from the upper tiers of a bench of retorts a and directing it either into the producer furnace 8 or on to a conveyer 8a, comprises a vertical shoot 2 which is carried by a wheeled framework running on an overhead track 4, 4a and is formed, on the side facing the retorts, with inclined guide plates 6, 6a, 6b for the coke, and at the lower end with an inclined rotatable discharge shoot 7. The latter is fitted with wheels b running on a circular flange 2b fixed to the lower end of the main shoot 2, handles d being provided to move the shoot 7 into the desired discharging position.
