Dye preparations; sulpho aromatic ricinoleic acids.-Insoluble or relatively insoluble colouring matters or organic compounds for use in dyeing, printing or stencilling, particularly for dyeing, printing or stencilling goods made with, or containing, cellulose acetate, are solubilized by pretreatment with one or more sulpho aromatic ricinoleic acids, e.g. sulpho benzene ricinoleic acid, sulpho phenol ricinoleic acid or sulpho naphthalene ricinoleic acid, or their salts. The dyestuffs or components (base or developer) specified in Specifications 219,349, 224,681, 227,183, 237,943, 242,393, 253,978 and 263,260, or other insoluble or relatively insoluble dyestuffs or components, may be used. The preparation of sodium sulpho naphthalene ricinoleate from sulphuric acid, naphthalene and castor oil is described in an example. In examples of dyeing, the following bodies are treated with sodium sulpho naphthalene ricinoleate :- 41-oxy-2 : 4- dinitrodiphenylamine. a - acetylaminoanthraquinone, p-diethylaminophenyl - 1 : 4 - naphthoquinone monoimide the disazo dyestuff from diaminostilbene and alpha-naphthylamine (2 mols.), benzeneazo -1- phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone and benzene-azo-a-naphtylamine.
