Machines with two or more armatures -In a series-parallel system of connecting continuous-curnent series twin motors, i.e. motors arranged in pairs, each pair constituting a single power unit and disposed, for example, on a locomotive axle, the field windings of each twin motor form an inseparable entity which is placed as a whole in the circuit of one of the armatures. Where an odd number of armatures is connected in series, as shown, one circuit contains three armatures and four field coils and the parallel circuit contains three armatures and two field coils. Each field winding may be provided with separate coils for weakening the field, and the coils of a twin motor which are to be cut in or out simultaneously are permanently interconnected.
