Improvements relating to the melting of enamels, frits and glazes

Rotary furnaces.-Enamels frits and glazes are melted in a rotary furnace having its longitudinal axis at an angle to its axis of rotation so that the charge is continuously moved to and fro along the length of the furnace, the tap-hole i being so situated at one end of the furnace that the whole of the charge can be drawn off. The drum is of cylindrical form and is mounted by eccentricallyplaced tyres f on rollers a, driven by worm gearing, the whole apparatus being carried by a truck k running on rails m. At one end of the drum is a burner orifice g, and the opening h at opposite ends serves for charging and as the waste gas outlet. In operation the furnace may be charged at one point and then moved laterally to a firing position where the outlet h registers with a fixed chimney. The connection between the furnace and the chimney may be made by a loose ring.
