281,658. Fiat Soc. Anon. Nov. 30, 1926, [Conrention date]. Framework; planes and wings, construction of.- A wing rib consists of a rigid triangular truss structure built up of metal tubes of quadrangular cross section. The upper and lower booms 1, 2 are tubes of rectangular cross section whilst the bracing struts 3 are of square cross section with the exception of the rear strut 4 which comprises a strip having a strengthening corrugation 5. The lower joints of the struts are arranged closer together than the upper ones and intermediate vertical struts 10 are provided as a greater load acts upon the lower boom 2. The struts are connected to the booms by plates 6 and tubular rivets, the passages in which may be used as anchorage for bracing wires. Upper and lower plates 11, 12 and 14, 15, which embrace the booms 1, 2, provide seatings for the spars which are connected to outturned tongues 13, 16 on the plates : the spars thus act as further struts for the rib.
