Gases, treating with liquids.-In apparatus for bringing gas or vapour into intimate contact with liquid, and having members such as brushcarrying rings 9 for promoting contact mounted on a shaft 8 located eccentrically within a chamber 3 to which liquid is supplied by a pipe 12, each member is provided with buckets 14, 14a, so arranged as to pick up liquid and discharge it continuously on to the brushes &c. whilst the buckets are in the upper half of the chamber. The buckets are arranged in pairs and one of each pair delivers liquid on crossing the median plane during its upward travel, the second bucket commencing to discharge liquid when vertically above the shaft. The shape of the buckets is preferably so proportioned that the quantity of liquid discharged at any moment is proportional to the distance it travels before leaving the useful contact zone. Variations in the body of liquid within the chamber may be made by closing certain of the overflow passages provided in the partitions dividing the chamber into sections.
